In almost every instance, when insurers learn about an accident or wrongful death that is covered under their policy, they will approach the victim with a quick offer to pay for medical expenses if he or she signs a release of liability, essentially agreeing not to seek further damages. To a person who has just survived an accident and/or lost a loved one, taking this fast money to cover expenses may seem like a good idea. However, the offers are almost always relatively low.
